The H.I.R.E. vs. Higher Initiative
Ending the threat of student debt.
The H.I.R.E. versus Higher Initiative is The Prosp(a)rity Project’s answer to the frequently asked question: how do we resolve the higher education debt crisis at its root? As we’ve seen in recent decades, this problem—which began as a sustainable, well-intentioned means for helping lower-income college students afford the cost of obtaining higher education—has ballooned into a nearly $2T behemoth and shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, it is on track to hit at least $3T by 2042.
As the “interception” pillar to our Three "I"s framework for closing the racial and gender wealth gap once and for all, HvH seeks to educate high-school- and college-age young people, their teachers, and their parents before they begin accruing student debt. While the program's youth advance further into their personal odysseys of pursuing higher education, a career, and financial independence, HvH will foster honest dialogue around the realities of the student debt crisis and the ways they can ensure they are protected from its effects.
